LET'S PRACTICE LISTENING SKILLS!
Hi guys! This time I share with you a game to improve our listening skills. In this case, the activity will be carried out on this website: Lyricstraining
This activity consists of filling in the gaps in the lyrics of the song while listening to it. In this case, the song is from the movie Charm, which we saw the last week in class. You need to follow these instructions:
1. You should choose the level of difficulty, in this case, "principiante" (or if you want to test yourself, a more advanced one). At this level, you will have to write 38 words randomly.
2. Once the difficulty level is selected, don't forget to click on the option where you don't need an account to access the game.
3. The faster you write the missing word in the gap, the more points you will have. Be careful, because if time runs out thinking of a word, you lose the opportunity to do the whole song, and therefore, to have a higher score.
4. If you don't know the word that you are asked for at a given moment, you can skip it by clicking on the arrow on the right.
The link is the following: WE DON'T TALK ABOUT BRUNO (FROM CHARM)
Once you have completed the lyrics song on this website, let's go to answer the following questions about the song, with the purpose to check if you have understood its meaning and specific details of it:
1. Who is Bruno? Why don't they want to talk about him?
2. According to the video, match the number and the letter according to the predictions made by Bruno and the person it affected.
a) He/she would have an impossible love.
b) His/her fish will pass away.
c) He/she will have a perfect life.
d) He/she will get fat.
e) It would be bad weather at her wedding.
3. Who is starting to lose her power? Which was his power?
Good luck, guys!

I think it is a very original idea to work on listening with the pupils, in addition to working on writing. What I like is your previous explanation before doing it, because if you go to the link you don't understand exactly what you have to do. I think that with this activity you are going to achieve that the level of attention of the pupil is focused on the game and not dispersed, since above all what you are asking for is attention. Even so, although this activity is easy, I don't think it should be for students younger than 3rd grade.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment, Laura! As you have said, the most important thing about this activity is to be focus on the song. If they get distracted, they won't hear the word and will lose game time.
ReplyDeleteOf course, you are right, this activity is more suitable for the third cycle of primary education. This activity is more suitable for the third cycle of primary education Younger students will not have the skills required to complete the activity, and this could be frustrating for them. It is very important to choose activities that have a level of difficulty according to the student's age and their own abilities.
Thank you again!
Excelent, María! I love your blog overall, your presentation and your activities as well, specially listening skill, as filling gaps is a great way of improving the listening comprehension. Furthermore, If you use music or another interactive song is perfect for the children attraction.
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Thank you for your comment and your positive words, Salvador!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say that music is a good way for students to concentrate on carrying out an activity, as it is undoubtedly a motivating element.
Best regards,
María
Hello Maria, good afternoon, your blog has personally caught my attention both for the entries and the way of explaining the activities since they make you stop and read them. Also, practicing listening with that movie seems like a good idea to capture the attention of the students.
ReplyDeleteI loved the idea. What better way to motivate students than through movies? Of course there is nothing more interesting.
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you present the blog entries, I think the combination of colors is very attractive. And continuing with the task, I think that the activities you propose after listening are very appropriate and really reinforce the contents worked.
Thank you for your positive comments, Ana and Eva. I'm glad you like the blog!
ReplyDeleteIn my case, I love including movies when I designed a task for my English classes. I also think it's a good way to catch the attention of the students, giving a known context for them. They always want to see an animated movie in class, so it's the perfect resource to make enjoy them and learn at the same time.
Best regards!
María.
Hello María,
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful activity and what a beautiful blog you share with us!
My students love this film and they always tell me to listen to the song, I didn't want just to listen to it without doing an activity too about it, so you gave me a fantastic way to make them happy and learn English at the same time, thank you so much.
Not only listening to it, but also doing the questions you suggest, we can practice listening comprehension and some verb tenses like "will". If they like the activity, something I'm sure will happen, we can also use this website to sing the rest of the songs of the film, what could be a great idea to design a didactic unit.
So, thanks for your post, it was very inspiring.
See you soon!
Carolina.

ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to know the interests of our students, because that can help us create activities with which we can transmit the necessary knowledge while having fun doing them.
I have also seen your blog and it has inspired me a lot, it is very original and you present the activities in a fun, attractive and organized way. Congratulations!
See you soon!
